The Company of Dance Unlimited is a competitive performance dance company for beginner to advanced level dancers. We place a strong emphasis on overall dancer growth. Dancers are placed in routines based on current skill level, growth potential, performance quality and sometimes experience. Dancers are considered for 1-3 group routines.
Any alteration to placements, for any reason, are done at the discretion of Dance Unlimited.
Our Philosophy
At Dance Unlimited we strive for all dancers to reach their potential and gain confidence, strength, poise and coordination through disciplined exercise. This success is predicated on mutual assistance, respect and diligent effort between our team, dancers and parents. Our culture of success is baed on our DANCE philosophy, which are 5 elements that will help all of our staff and dancers reach beyond their potential!

This can be displayed within our own studio as well as at competition when we interact with our competitors. Always being approachable, showing good sportsmanship and having a positive attitude towards others are great ways to show your nobility!
COMMITMENT : the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity or team. The Company requires a huge commitment to not only the craft, but to each other! Being present for yourself and the team is a key factor leading us to success! We want our dancers to have a strong commitment to their team and craft but as well as to being a growing human! Maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit is crucial!

DRESS CODE:
- Training class dress code: There is a strict dress code for training classes. These classes include ballet technique, leaps and turns, tap, strength and stretch, flexibility, and jazz technique, and acro.
- Ballet Technique dress code: a solid black leotard, pink ballet tights, canvas ballet pink shoes, hair in a bun, slicked back with no fly aways or hair falling in the face. This applies to all ballet technique classes.
- Other training classes: Tights may be removed after ballet and replaced with solid black form fitting bottoms (shorts, leggings, etc) as long as this does not make dancers late to the next class. No other clothing items are permitted (tshirts, sweatshirts, etc) as this makes it difficult to see lines and incorrect body placement.
- The appropriate shoes are required for all training classes: pink canvas ballet shoes for ballet; pirouettes for leaps and turns, slip on tap shoes for tap
- Group rehearsal dress code: form fitting, no baggy clothing (no pajama pants, sweatpants, denim wear, hoodies, or similar clothing).
- Should a dancer come to class without the appropriate clothing attire or shoes, an email will be sent to the parent and a $10 dress code fee will be charged to the card on file. This fee applies per class.
COSTUMES: All group costumes are chosen by the dance educator for that routine. This includes the costume, hair, makeup, accessories, and shoes when applicable. PIR costumes can be picked by the dancer, but the costume must be approved by Brittany or Taylor. All costumes should be age appropriate. This is to protect the integrity of Dance Unlimited.
- All costume fees should be paid by this due date. If unpaid, they will automatically be chareged to the card on file. There is a $25 late fee per costume for declined cards on the due date!
SPIRIT WEAR: We will have options to buy Spirit wear throughout the year, including Dance Unlimited items and items from our new DanceU custom label line.
- Designing Your Own Spirit Wear: However, if you would like to make your own spirit wear that uses our name, image, logo, or likeness, approval of the design by Dance Unlimited administration is required.
- Upon aproval of your design, a $10 royalty fee per unit sold will be owed to Dance Unlimited for the use of our name, image, logo, and likeness.
- All ordering and collecting of money will go through Dance Unlimited. The designer will create their own order forms and bring them to Dance Unlimited, where they can be picked up and turned back in for ordering.
SOCIAL MEDIA: We live in the era of social media and we believe in being able to express yourself through it! However, please refrain from using the Dance Unlimited’s name, image, logo, or likeness in any post that contains the following: politically opinionated posts, posts that depict alcohol, smoking, or drug use, posts that contain illicit/illegal activity, posts that contain sexual content, posts with vulgar language or gestures, pots that slander another dance studio or industry organization. This includes vulgar music on posts. If your social media accounts contain any of the above, you cannot post any pictures in Dance Unlimited clothing items, pics from our studio, or pictures from competitions or any Dance Unlimited event.
INJURIES: In the event that a dancer is injured and cannot participate in rehearsal, a note of clearance from a healthcare professional is required for the dancer to return to practice/classes.
- If a dancer is removed from a routine due to injury, they will be placed back into the routine at a time that does not interrupt the success of the routine.
- Any braces, splints, or orthopedic wear must be worn during class as prescribed. Dancers will not be allowed to participate without it.
- Injured dancers are still required to attend all group rehearsals and competitions/conventions to support their fellow Company members.
FOOD AND DRINK: Food and drink are permitted in the lobby and lounge, but dancers should not be late to class or stay in the lobby after a water break due to eating. We suggest eating at home before you come to the studio or eating on the way to the studio!
- Big items such as pizza boxes or large bags of food items should be take to the dumpster and not placed in the indoor garbage cans. Please make sure to pick up food that has been dropped on the floor. Thank you for helping to keep Dance Unlimited clean!
CONFLICTS OF INTEREST: Because it creates a conflict of interest, imbalance in The Company, and ultimately hinders the success of The Company, Dance Unlimited does not allow any Company dancer to be a part of another dance studio in the Louisville Metro area, including Mount Washington and Bullitt County. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Partaking in any type of dance training/classes at another studio or affiliated with another studio or with someone online
- Competing or performing with another dance studio
- Having your routines/PIRs cleaned by anyone at another dance studio or by someone online. This includes school team coaches/directors.
- Practicing/running Company routines/PIRs at another dance studio
- Teaching at another dance studio
- Should any of the above occur, it will result in immediate removal from The Company.
REMOVAL OF DANCERS: Dance Unlimited reserves the right to remove any dancer/family from our program, at our discretion, for any reason. This includes removing dancers from dancers from routines. Though we reserve this right, our ultimate goal is for of our dancers and families to have a successful year.
FUNDRAISING: This is a great way to help with all the fees that come with being a competitive dancer! With dedication to fundraising, its possible to pay for a huge portion of your fees without dipping in to your own pockets! We HIGHLY suggest fundraising! We provide numerous fundraising opportunities from bake sales, to selling mums, to selling Double Good Popcorn, selling coupon books, and more!
- Bake Sales: Dancers who participate should wear DU attire. When signing up for a bake sale, please only sign up your dancer! This makes it more fair to everyone when signing up.
- At times, there may be fundraisers that we require all dancers to participate in to help raise money for coach’s fees.
- If you have a fundraising suggestion, please see Brittany!
- When fundraising on your own, please refrain from using Dance Unlimited’s name or logo.
- When doing a fundraiser using Dance Unlimited’s name or logo, the fundraiser must be approved by Dance Unlimited and open to all members of The Company.
TOXICITY/RUMORS: Dance Unlimited has a new zero toxicity policy. We want a toxic and rumor free environment for our families, dancers, and staff. Creating toxicity and starting rumors may result in loss of access to the lobby or removal from The Company. Examples of toxicity/rumors include, but are not limited to:
- Making false statements about other dancers and staff
- Encouraging other dancers/staff to leave Dance Unlimited and go to another dance studio to dance or teach
- Making negative comments about another dancer’s success/accomplishments, or tearing other dancers down in general
- Asking for other dancer’s competition scores
- Conspiring with others to try to get routine styles changed
- Starting rumors regarding favoritism
- Toxic goal setting: Having a goal for your dancer is great, but making sure they are appropriate and attainable goals is important. For example, having a goal to out place another dancer in The Company at competition creates a toxic environment. Wanting to have a back layout by the end of year when you don’t have a back walk over is not an attainable goal. If you need help setting proper goals for your dancer this season, please see a dance educator.
- Speaking negatively about the studio, staff, or other dancers around your dancer creates a toxic environment. This carries over into the classroom and effects your dancer’s training and progress. We ask that you maintain a positive attitude regarding Dance Unlimited around your dancer. Thank you!
